DAY 144: Coming Home
I wrote two weeks ago that if Mom kept improving at her recent rate, she'd be able to come home on April 15. Well, it's gone even better than that. I have shatteringly great news:
She is coming home tomorrow!
Her progress has astounded everybody. Here she is throwing a beach ball, with the blur of the ball barely visible at the upper left:
On another day, she took a stroll, or perhaps a roll, in a nearby park with Emily:
Our original plan was for me to return in mid-April to help care for Mom during her first weeks home, but she's improved so quickly that I can't be there in time. No problem, though. The rest of the family has it covered.
For the first week, Mom will need 24/7 care and people have divided up the days to see that she gets it. After that, the schedule will become more relaxed. She can handle most living tasks on her own such as getting out of bed, going to the bathroom, bathing, brushing her teeth, answering the phone, and so on.
We want to get her to an eye doctor soon to check her left eye. At this point, it looks as if she lost it for good, but we're not sure yet. Even if she did, we all agree that it's a relatively small price to pay in light of how close she came to losing it all.
On Day 145 of this saga, Liz Kelly will return home. I can't stop smiling.

Glad to hear that your mom is home . Hope that progress continues with each new day. She is a very fortunate woman to have such a supportive family.
